ABOUT THE ARTIST

Dee Curtis’ work evokes a visual subtlety and poetic ambiguity that occupy a liminal space between imagination and memory. Melding experimental studio-based practice with research, Curtis responds to specific places and environments to create and configure sculptures, drawings and suspensions.

Informed by anthropological theory, science, nature and culture, she draws from her interest in subterranean cultural landscapes, the fragmentation of artefacts and mythological studies, topographical studies, strata and faults, and landscapes that emerge from her memory.

She works with a diverse range of materials, copper, paper, silk, glass and carbon paper; materials with which she has developed specific techniques.

Curtis studied Sculpture at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, studied Art in Public Space at RMIT in Melbourne and has a Masters in Media Design and Contemporary Art from Paris VIII University. Curtis was a finalist in both the ‘Speakers Corner Public Art Project’ at Federation Square and the Sandhurst Acquisitive Sculpture Prize at the Bendigo Regional Art Gallery. She won the Victorian College Sculpture Award and the Pat Corrigan Artist Grant.

Dee Curtis was an artist at the l'ancienne Orfèvrerie ateliers, a recent cultural hub in Saint-Denis from 2018–2022. Curtis has exhibited in Paris, Norway, Melbourne and Sydney.

In Novemmber 2026, Curtis will participate in her third artist residency at the Podere le Valle in Tuscany, Italy.
